Hello from WBTV-LP’s Radio Advisory Group (RAC).
Now that we launched (softly) on the air this month, there is a whole lot of radio-making and station moving and shaking going on! Each month, the co-chairs (myself, DJ Llu) and/or Bill Simmon (VCAM’s Director of Media Services) will write a brief update on what the RAC is up to and what’s next for WBTV-LP. So, here is our first one as we end September.
WBTV-LP’s September RADio Updates
We met our goal of getting our antenna up and plugged in by Art Hop! This is a huge, huge milestone for the station (and 6 years in the making). You can now tune in at 99.3 FM around Burlington and we (our tech committee) can work out additional broadcast minor punch lists to make sure we can boost up to the full 100 watts by our official station launch party on November 3 (save that date!). Thanks to Seven Days and the Burlington Free Press for coverage of flipping the on switch.
- Our schedule is about half-way filled (yes already!) with locally made shows that are greatly expanding the community radio content here in the Queen City. Tune in to hear brand new radio folks and old seasoned vets!
- WBTV-LP is a member-run station, which means our programmers and listeners are part of making decisions and making the day to day station work happen. We have support of a very part-time Station Coordinator position, but rely heavily on our station committees (the RAC (governing board), Outreach/Education/Fundraising, Tech, and Programming) to move the station forward. All of these committees are looking for new members/leaders with a range of skills. Email Jo Thomas, Chair of the Outreach Committee, to learn more about each committee and plug in.
- And now that we are live on air, we will be starting up our fundraising efforts of underwriting with our local business community. This is a great way to show your support of the station and community radio, but also get your business noticed! More info here.
All WBTV-LP RAC meetings are open to the public and occur (generally) the second Monday of each month, 5:30-7 p.m. at 208 Flynn Ave (the Media Factory and home of the WBTV-LP studio, RETN, and VCAM).
Note: the October RAC meeting is on a different day due to scheduling issues: Monday, October 2, 5:30-7 p.m.
You can read all past RAC meeting minutes on our website here.
