All Station Meet Up \ Thursday, January 7, 6-7:30 p.m.

You are invited to our very first all station meet up to start the new year! This is for our new supporting members, interested community members, and our radio building leaders to gather, share food (it is a potluck! please bring a dish!), and to hear report backs from each of our working committees: Outreach, Fundraising, Governance, Tech, and Programming.

Find out where we are at in our timeline, connect with other radio lovers, and how you can help us get on the air by our deadline of May 2016! The meet up will happen in the new Media Factory in the VCAM & RETN space at 208 Flynn Ave, which is where the new radio studio will be too! Directions are here!

WBTV-LP’S The Art of Interviewing \ Wednesday, January 13, 6 p.m.

Whether you’re making a talk show or documentary for radio, TV, or film, doing a life history, or writing a feature article, conducting an interview that yields great content from your interview subject can be challenging. Making your subjects both comfortable and engaged, especially when there are microphones, cameras, and even lights pointed at them, is difficult under even the best circumstances. What are some techniques that are tried and true for getting the most out of your interview? The workshop will be 90 minutes and will include both discussion and demonstrations, as well as hands-on interviewing with recording equipment.

This workshop will teach you:

  • Interview methods that have worked and some best practices for interviewers
  • Technical aspects, such as recording equipment, audio levels and mic placement
  • How to “listen like an editor”

Facilities, Materials, Payment and Registration:

  • Workshop will be held in the new Media Factory space in VCAM.
  • Materials and recording equipment will be provided; feel free to bring your laptop to transfer audio.
