Audio Story Feedback Session- 10/21, 7pm

Hi all!

Ari here. (I feel like I need a cool radio code name. Suggestions welcome).

On October 21st I’m going to be hosting a participatory workshop that I’m incredibly excited for. It’s a group audio feedback session. We’re putting the community back in community radio making! Having a community of radio people looking at your stories makes your work so much better. When you’re so deep inside your piece that you’re going stir crazy, a group can remind you what’s interesting about it in the first place. It also makes it a lot more fun!

These were the folks I bounced all my pieces and ideas off of.

I spent an intensive semester learning about radio documentary storytelling, and having my classmates around made all the difference.

This group will happen every month. You can shepherd an audio piece from start to finish with the feedback of the group.

There will also be space to ask questions about the process. I’m excited to share what I can about everything from gear, to making the piece a compelling narrative, to editing sound levels.

Donations are hugely appreciated, but if you can’t or don’t want to swing that for any reason, I promise absolutely no guilt (Llu might guilt you, though). Snacks are also welcome if you feel inspired.

Here’s the details:

Audio Story Feedback Session, Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m.

This is an opportunity to get productive, judgement-free group feedback on any audio pieces you’re working on. Bring in anything from a tiny germ of an idea to a nearly finished cut of the audio, and anything in between. “But what if I’m not working on a piece?” I hear you ask. That’s totally fine. Come anyways, this is a great way to learn more about radio making. Total beginners welcome.

Ari spent an entire semester this spring learning all the dark secrets of narrative radio. He’s a super geek about editing, story structure, and sound. He’s excited to hear and help develop your documentary stories, character portraits, audio fiction, soundscapes, or whatsoever you come up with.

Held in VCAM’s main space. Participants are asked to make a $5 donation toward the 99.3FM, WBTV-LP radio building project.
